A Coroner's Inquest was held yesterday in the city Court- room on the body of a man named Bartholomew CUISACK who, it appears, came to his death by injuries received on Wednesday eve. 19th inst. in a house in York Point (St. John) kept by a man named Patrick WALSH. The deceased was a resident of Carleton and came over to this side on that evening in company with one DRISCOLL and both went to Walsh's where a number of others were drinking. Considerable discrepancy appeared in the evidence of those who were in the house at the time of the occurence. Some swearing that there was no quarrel nor scolding and some said that the deceased had struck at Walsh across the counter, and others stated that the deceased was so drunk that he fell with his head against the stove and knocked down the stove pipe. Walsh, the landlord, swore distinctly that he saw a man named McCarthy take up a deal-end in both hands and strike deceased on the head so hard a blow that it might be heard by all in the house and that some cried out "Don't kill the man." Dr WARD made a post mortem examination and discovered fractures in the skull made by a blow of something with a broad flat surface which he had no doubt was the cause of his death. The deceased was taken over to Carleton and survived until Tuesday. The Jury, after a few minutes deliberation, returned a verdict of wilful murder against McCARTHY who has been taken into custody. - Globe (We understand that McCarthy is not yet arrested -N.B.C.
