This map of the northern part of the state of Maine and New Brunswick shows the boundary dispute between the United States and New Brunswick in 1830. This border controversy went on from 1782 until it was finally resolved in 1842. Over this sixty-year period, a series of treaties established, changed and re-established the border. Finally, in 1842, following a bloodless war known as the "Aroostook War", the Webster-Ashburton Treaty established the border still in place today.
On this map, the green colour denotes the boundary line as claimed by the United States and the red colour denotes the boundary line as claimed by Great Britain. The yellow colour denotes the boundary line proposed by the arbiter.
