The logging industry is a key part of New Brunswick's economy. Trees were felled in winter and had to be hauled out of the forest and stacked near a river or lake until the spring ice melt. In spring, the logs were floated to processing plants.
This lithograph was published in the London Illustrated News depicts a winter scene (circa 1850) in which oxens are hauling logs in the forest.
