Place : Fredericton
Date : c 1930

The New Brunswick Legislative Assembly Building was built between 1880 and 1882 from plans drawn by architect J.C. Dumaresq of Saint John. The building and its furnishings cost $120,000. The Legislative Assembly Building is a three-storey sandstone structure built in the Second Empire style with a mansard roof and corner towers. The central octagonal domed tower, which rises 41 metres above the main roof level, is a Fredericton landmark. The portico sheltering the main entrance is supported by four round tapered stone columns 4.25 metres high with Corinthian capitals, capped with stone carved faces and a cast iron ornamental railing.
