Seals are among the most ancient manifestations of civilization. Their use has been linked to the development of public administration and the need to attest, through an imprint in clay, wax or metal, to the authenticity of a written instrument.
This seal of the province of New Brunswick is made of wax and measures 11 cm in diameter and is 1.2 cm thick. On one side is the royal coat-of-arms of George III and on the other side is a ship sailing up river on the borders of which is a new settlement with pine trees with the New Brunswick motto "Spem Reduxit" which means "hope restored"
