The first efforts at organizing agricultural activities in New Brunswick were in 1790 with the formation of the Saint John Agricultural Society under the patronage of Lieutenant Governor Thomas Carleton. During the 19th century, many other agricultural societies formed in New Brunswick, particularly in the southern region.
With the establishment of the New Brunswick Board of Agriculture in 1859, the societies submitted returns along with statistics, suggestions, and recommendations as may be required by the new Board. The Board made rules and regulations for the governing of the agricultural societies and exercised a sound and proper supervision and control over local agricultural societies.
This document is the annual report for the Gloucester County Agricultural Society. It highlights the situation of agricultural progress in the area as well as the work of the Society.
