Description
Located 3.88 km E of Harvey: Manners Sutton Parish, York County: settled by Irish immigrants in 1842: possibly named for John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, the first Baron of Acton (1834-1902), who was a proponent of Ireland gaining independence from British rule: PO 1865-1870: in 1866 Acton was a farming settlement with about 70 resident families: in 1871 it had a population of 175: Acton became part of Cork.
