Description
Located on E side of the Southwest Miramichi River, 3.92 km SSE of Keenan Siding: Blackville Parish, Northumberland County: settled in 1826 and named Howardville for Sir Howard Douglas (1776-1861), the lieutenant-governor of New Brunswick from 1823-1832: included Forks Cain's River: in 1871 Forks Cain's River had a population of 30: PO Cains River 1873-1918: in 1898 Cains River was a farming, fishing and lumbering settlement with 1 post office and a population of 100: also included the community of Forks: PO Howard 1918-1966.
