Located 6.78 km WSW of DeWolfe: Saint James Parish, Charlotte County: settled in 1803 by immigrants from County Sutherlandshire, Scotland: named for huge basswood trees formerly found on the ridge: PO 1854-1932: in 1866 Basswood Ridge was a small farming community with 25 resident families: in 1871 it had a population of 150: in 1898 Basswood Ridge had 1 post office and a population of 100: also called Hayman Hill.
