Located on S side of the Southwest Miramichi River, 1.27 km E of Millerton and 3.14 km NE of Chelmsford: Nelson Parish, Northumberland County: PO 1903-1947 with William Kirk as first postmaster: in 1904 Kirkwood was a farming settlement with 1 post office and a population of 75: included Cushman, located 1.5 km E of Millerton: in 1898 "Cushmans" was a flag station on the Canada Eastern Railway and a farming settlement with a population of 100.
