Located on Shippegan Island, 1.25 km W of Haut-Lamèque: Shippegan Parish, Gloucester County: settled in 1770 and first called Grande Amacque: in 1866 Grande Amacque was a fishing and farming settlement with approximately 20 families: PO Lamèque 1867-1872 and from 1888: in 1871 it had a population of 250: in 1904 Lamèque was a fishing and farming community with 1 post office, 2 stores, a large fishing business, 1 church and a population of 375: Lamèque was incorporated as a village in 1966 and became a town in 1982.
