Located on E bank of the St. John River, 3.18 km NE of Oromocto: Maugerville Parish, Sunbury County (pronounced "may-jer-ville"): settled in 1760's by New Englanders and first called Peabody for Francis Peabody, who was the founder of the settlement: renamed Maugerville by 1800 after Joshua Mauger (1725-1788): PO Maugerville 1800-1966: in 1866 it was a farming settlement with approximately 64 families: in 1871 Maugerville had a population of 300: in 1898 Maugerville had 1 post office, 1 store, 1 hotel, 2 churches and a population of 150.
