York County: William Francis Ganong identified the Maliseet name for Pokiok as Pokee'ok or "a narrow place" : PO
Poquiock 1854-1916: in 1866 Pokiok was a farming community on W side of St. John River with approximately 60 resident families: in 1871 it had a population of about 150: in 1898 Pokiok had post office, 1 store, 1 sawmill, 1 sash and door factory and a population of about 75.
