Located 14.84 km SW of Minto : Sheffield Parish, Sunbury County: named for the rapids in nearby Little River: William Francis Ganong identified the Maliseet name for Ripples as Nemdit'qu: PO Little River 1856-1903: in 1866 Little River was a farming and lumbering settlement with about 46 resident families: in 1871 Little River and surrounding district had a population of 250: in 1898 Little River had 1 post office, 1 sawmill, 2 churches and a population of 150: PO Ripples from 1903: during World War II there was an internment camp in the area.
