: in 1866 Blacks Harbour was a fishing settlement with about 14 families: in 1871 it had a population of 100: PO from 1885: in 1898 Blacks Harbour had 1 post office, 1 store, 1 fish canning factory, 1 church and a population of 150: by 1904 the population had increased by 200: included French Village: Blacks Harbour was incorporated as a village in 1972: Today Blacks Harbour is an important centre for sardine and herring canning.
