Gloucester County: established in 1814 from part of Alnwick Parish, Northumberland County: named for Major-General Sir Thomas Saumarez (1760-1845), an administrator of the New Brunswick government in 1814: Saumarez Parish included New Bandon Parish and Caraquet Parish until 1831, Shippegan Parish until 1851, Inkerman Parish until 1855, and Saint-Isidore Parish until 1881.
