Located on Washademoak Lake, 6.35 km SE of Youngs Cove Road: Johnston Parish, Queens County: named for David Cole who was a Loyalist settler in the area: PO 1858-1982: in 1866 Coles Island was a farming settlement with about 54 families, including 9 Starkey families: in 1871 the community and surrounding district had a population of 200: in 1898 Coles Island had 1 post office, 2 stores, 1 hotel, 1 sawmill, 1 church and a population of 100.
