Some of Miss Rye’s emigrant girls. – 1 lithograph ; published in Canadian Illustrated News, 1 May 1875. Artist and lithographer unknown. Maria Susan Rye (1829-1903), the daughter of a London solicitor, brought her first party of poor children to Canada in November 1869. A number of them hailed from the Kirkdale Industrial School of Liverpool. The children were placed with families in Ontario, Québec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, as well as in the United States.
