A Hand-Book of Information for Emigrants to New-Brunswick/ by M. H. Perley, Esq. – 1857. – 7 pp. of textual records. At the time his handbook was published, Perley was acting as Her Majesty’s emigration officer at Saint John, N.B. Here he outlines how land in New Brunswick can be obtained either by purchase or by working on public roads. He also offers general information on passage tickets, the best time of arrival, demand for labour, clearing of wild land, taxes, and diseases. Perley’s handbook and others like it were distributed overseas to prospective immigrants, most especially to farm labourers and domestic servants. MC80-186, PANB. (pp. A and 84-89).
