Artist’s depiction of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Saint John, N.B. – [ca. 1865]. – 1 photograph : b&w ; 25 x 19.5 cm. Artist and photographer unknown. Located on Waterloo Street in the heart of Uptown Saint John, the cathedral was constructed between 1853 and 1865 under the guidance of two Bishops – The Most Rev. Thomas Connolly and the Most Rev. John Sweeny. The first Mass was offered in the partially-completed structure in December 1853. The 230-foot spire was erected in 1871; the chimes were installed in 1885.
