Portrait of Thomas Baillie. – [ca. 1850?]. – 1 photograph : bw ; 22 x 18 cm. Photograph of a portrait painting by an [unknown] artist. Photographer unknown. Thomas Baillie (1796-1863) served as commissioner of crown lands and surveyor [general] of New Brunswick (1824-1839, ca. 1841-1851) and as a member of [both] the Executive Council and House of Assembly. Much disliked, particularly by timber merchants and members of the House of Assembly for his reportedly tyrannical policies and lavish displays of wealth, Baillie faced strong opposition from the official community during his terms of office. He retired to Britain in 1851 and died 12 years later while on holiday [at] Boulogne, France. Source: “Thomas Baillie” by W. S. MacNutt,
