Portable sawmills became very popular when they first appeared because they allowed men to cut their firewood instead of having to do this job by hand. This picture shows several cutting wood with a portable sawmill. On the right of this picture are long logs that have not yet been cut and to the left are cut logs that will be used as firewood.
