Seen in this photo: this log jam in the St. John River Gorge at Grand Falls back in 1882 was caused by a rapid drop in the river's water level. It was even announced that 15 million feet of logs were piled up in the gorge! The solution was to wait until the water level rose in the spring so that the jam could be broken up and the way cleared.
