Lewis Wilson, 1915-1998, was a well known professional photographer and owner of
Wilson Studio in Saint John for 52 years. He was born near Meenans Cove and died
in Hampton. He was married to Dorothy Gillen in 1934 and they had 4 children. He
had a keen interest in photography from his teenage years and his employment with
Garett Studio in Saint John provided his initial experience in the photographic
profession. In 1939 he acquired the Isaac Erb Photography Studio on Charlotte Street
and a part of his business included the printing and sale of Isaac Erb's early 20th
century photographs. In 1992 he relocated Wilsons Studios to 162 Union St. His portraits
were praised for their technical and artistic merit and his aerial photographs for
which he acquired his own aircraft obtained wide acclaim and awards. His aerial
photography attracted many corporate clients including Irving, New Brunswick Power,
New Brunswick Telephone Co. Ltd, and.
Aerial photographs relate largely to urban and industrial areas in Saint John and
southern New Brunswick, including Irving interests such as Shipbuilding and Dry
Dock Co., the Oil Refinery and the MacMillan-Rothesay Paper Co., ship launches and
many aspects of the forestry and lumber operations, New Brunswick Power sites in
the Saint John vicinity, New Brunswick Telephone Co. Ltd., province-wide communication
installations, Brunswick Mining and Smelting Co., UNB Saint John, and homes of individuals.
