ALLAIN, DAVID VITAL (1870-1945)

ALLAIN, DAVID VITAL, businessman and MLA; b. Neguac, 8 Oct 1870, s/o Vital Allain and Mary Auger; m. 1st, 1899, Hélène Allain, d/o Octave Allain and Emilie Sivret, and 2nd, 1907, Alice Cyr, of Baker Brook, N.B.; d. Neguac, 15 Apr 1945.

David V. Allain was educated locally and became a businessman and postmaster at Neguac. After serving several terms as a county councillor he ran successfully under the Liberal banner in 1917 for election to the Legislative Assembly. He held his seat for three years, but when he was defeated in the general election of 1920 and a by-election in 1921 he withdrew from politics. He was later an inspector of old age pensions.

Two daughters were born of Allain's marriage to Hélène Allain and three sons and seven daughters of his marriage to Alice Cyr. Both daughters from the first marriage and one from the second joined religious orders, and one of the three sons was a Trappist monk.
