CRAMMOND, CHARLES (1839-1916)

CRAMMOND, CHARLES, gunsmith; b. Newcastle, 14 Dec 1839, s/o Charles Crammond and Elspet Ross, natives of Aberdeenshire, Scotland; m. 1871, Janet Urquhart, d/o John R. Urquhart and Janet McKinnon; d. Newcastle, 26 Mar 1916.

Charles Crammond was born four years after his parents immigrated from Scotland and settled at Rosebank. He studied at the Newcastle Grammar School under John H. Sivewright and then took up his father's trade of gunsmith. For many years prior to his retirement in 1914 he was also a machinist with the Intercolonial Railway.

Crammond was a member of the Masonic order and the Presbyterian church. He and his wife, Janet Urquhart, had six children. When he died in 1916, at age seventy-six, he left two daughters and two sons.
