CROCKER, CHRISTOPHER P. (1840-1921)

CROCKER, CHRISTOPHER P., farmer and lumber scaler; b. Derby, 2 Dec 1840, s/o Rowland Crocker and Margaret Parker; brother of Timothy W. Crocker; m. 1st, 1870, Margaret Betts, d/o Jared Betts and Ann Clouston, and 2nd, 1889, Ella H. Betts, d/o Elizabeth Betts; d. Millerton, 16 Apr 1921.

Christopher P. Crocker had a lengthy and productive life in Derby parish, while following the ordinary occupations of the community. One of his main jobs was that of lumber surveyor, or scaler, from which he received an income equivalent to that of a teacher.

The ten or more children of Crocker's two marriages were remarkable for the educational and occupational levels which they reached. Among them were J. Burton Crocker, a Fredericton dentist; Walter and David Crocker, hardware merchants in Truro, N.S.; Hubert Crocker, manager of the Dominion Rubber Co. in Saint John and a governor of the Rothesay Collegiate School; Clarence Crocker, another Saint John businessman; Mabel M. Crocker, a graduate of Mount Allison Ladies' College, and wife of Randolf Crocker; Anna M. Crocker, who studied at Mount Allison and taught for many years at the Maritime Home for Girls in Truro; and Bernice H. Crocker, who also studied music at Mount Allison and was later a student and teacher of music in New York City.
