DICKSON, ALEXANDER GILLISS, farmer; b. Centre Napan, 1862, s/o William Dickson and Elizabeth Gilliss; m. 1891, Margaret Estella Ellsworth, of Norton, N.B., a native of Springfield, Kings Co.; d. Chatham, 27 Mar 1949.

Alexander G. Dickson was a successful farmer at Napan who played an important part in local and provincial organizations. He was among the founding directors of the Miramichi Exhibition Association in 1902 and later served two terms as president (1911-12 and 1925-27). He also had a lengthy involvement with the New Brunswick Farmers' and Dairymen's Association, from serving as recording secretary in 1912, to being elected president and subsequently honorary president for many years. He was also an executive member of the Maritime Winter Fair committee.

After he retired in Chatham in 1930, Dickson busied himself with a number of other organizations. He was a member of the town council for eight years, president of the Highland Society in 1930-31, and president of the Riverside Cemetery Co. He also served a term as president of the Chatham branch of the Red Cross Society. Prior to church union he was a member and trustee of St John's Church, Chatham. He was later an elder of St Andrew's United Church and secretary of the Miramichi Presbytery.

Dickson's wife, Margaret Estella Ellsworth, died in 1944. A son also predeceased him. He was survived in 1949 by two daughters.
