FOGO, WILLIAM (1840 LIVING 1891)

FOGO, WILLIAM, Presbyterian minister, Tabusintac and Burnt Church, 1877-80; b. North Leith, Midlothian, Scotland, 20 Sep 1840, s/o Robert Fogo and h/w Susanna; m. Annie A. Rankine, a native of Glasgow; living in 1891.

William Fogo, who was educated at the University of St Andrews, was ordained by the Presbytery of Perth before being sent to Halifax by the colonial committee of the Church of Scotland in 1868. In 1871, he became the minister at Stanley and Nashwaak, N.B. He and his wife had an infant son at that time, and the next year they had a second son baptized in Chatham.

Fogo declined a call from the congregation at Black River in 1876 but agreed to accept the Tabusintac and Burnt Church charge in 1877. In 1880, he was granted leave to visit his former home in Scotland. Once there, he decided not to come back to Canada, which greatly surprised the members of his charge. In 1881, he and his family were living at Abernethy, Perthshire, where he was the assistant minister of the Church of Scotland. In 1891, he was the minister at Creigh, Sutherlandshire. He died before 1901, when his widow and daughter were living in Kincardine Parish, in Ross and Cromarty.
