ARNOLD, MARY ANN (1878-1934)

ARNOLD, MARY ANN, Sister St Eulalia of the Congregation of Notre Dame; teacher, and superior at Newcastle, 1932-34; b. Montreal, 6 Aug 1878; entered religious life, 1892; d. Montreal, 26 Oct 1934.

Mary Ann Arnold, who was orphaned early in life, was educated at Catholic day and boarding schools in Montreal and entered the Congregation of Notre Dame at age fourteen. A teacher, her career was conducted mostly in Montreal and elsewhere in Quebec, but she served for shorter periods in Chicago, at Aurora, Ont., and in Newcastle. Because she was ailing during much of her time at St Mary's Convent in Newcastle, however, she was prevented from carrying out her duties with her usual vigor. She was fifty-six at the time of her death.
