LAVOIE, FRANÇOIS-THEOPHILUS (1874-1947)

LAVOIE, FRANÇOIS-THEOPHILUS, MLA; b. Rogersville, N.B., 22 May 1874, s/o Theophilus Lavoie and Sophie Marquis; m. 1894, Marie Wedge, of Rogersville; d. there, 26 Aug 1947.

François-Theophilus Lavoie, a farmer and general merchant at Rogersville, became a factor in the life of the Miramichi community in 1925 when he was elected under the Conservative banner as one of the four Northumberland County representatives in the Legislative Assembly. He sat until 1930 and was defeated in that year's election. He removed himself from politics until 1939, when he reoffered and was again defeated. He and his wife, Marie Wedge, had two sons and five daughters, several of whom made their permanent homes at Rogersville.
