LITTLE, FRANCIS JOHN (1896-1986)

LITTLE, FRANCIS JOHN, United Church minister, Loggieville, 1937-43; b. Bonavista, Nfld, 20 Nov 1896, s/o James Carroll Little and Miriam Hampton; m. 1928, Evelyn F. Cox, of Halifax; d. Oshawa, Ont., 3 Oct 1986.

Francis J. Little was a teacher in Newfoundland between 1916 and 1924. He then entered Mount Allison University to study theology. After two years there and two years at Pine Hill Divinity Hall in Halifax he was ordained to the ministry of the United Church. He had pastorates at Glassville, N.B., and Newport, N.S., before being called to Loggieville in 1937. He was a "dedicated theologian" whose preaching was well received by the congregation.

When Little left the Miramichi in 1943 he went to Sussex Corner, N.B. In 1949 he was called to Port Hood, N.S., and in 1953 he moved to Ontario. His final pastorate was at Whitevale in that province. He retired in Oshawa in 1968. He was eighty-nine years of age at the time of his death. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn F. Cox, and survived by a daughter and four sons.
