PEACOCK, JOHN CARITTE (1876-1966)

PEACOCK, JOHN CARITTE, Baptist minister, Whitneyville and Little Southwest, 1918-19; b. Shemogue, N.B., 16 Apr 1876, s/o William M. Peacock and Thomason Spence; m. Elizabeth Eleanor Ramsay; d. Sackville, N.B., 23 Jun 1966.

One of a large family in a Presbyterian farm home, J. Caritte Peacock was past thirty when he graduated from Acadia University (BA 1907), and he was thirty-five when he was ordained a Baptist minister in 1911. He served pastorates at O'Leary Station, P.E.I., and Isaac's Harbour, N.S., prior to 1918, when he was invited to the churches at Whitneyville and Little Southwest. He stayed on the field only about a year and then went back to Prince Edward Island. Except for a pastorate at Hawkshaw, N.B., in the mid 1920s, the rest of his service was rendered on the Island. He retired in Port Elgin, N.B., around 1936 and made his home there until shortly before his death in 1966, at age ninety.
