REATH, VINCENT BERNARD (1869-1929)

REATH, VINCENT BERNARD, Catholic priest of the Basilian congregation and teacher, St Thomas College, 1914-19; b. St Thomas, Ont., 10 Jul 1869, s/o Moses Reath and Eleanor Bolger; ordained 1898; d. Toronto, 20 Jan 1929.

Vincent B. Reath studied at Assumption College in Windsor, Ont., before entering St Basil's Novitiate in 1892. He later trained for the priesthood at the congregation's seminary in Toronto. His first teaching appointment was at Assumption College. He was on the faculty at St Michael's College, Toronto, immediately prior to being assigned to St Thomas in 1914, and he returned to that faculty when he left Chatham five years later. He was interested in the recreational programs of the institutions in which he taught, and especially in baseball.
