WALLACE, WILLIAM JOHN (1899-1985)

WALLACE, WILLIAM JOHN, Catholic parish priest, Boiestown, 1925-31; Bartibog, 1931-46; and Chatham, 1946-61; b. Chatham, 15 Jan 1899, s/o John Michael Wallace and Catherine O'Kane; ordained 1923; d. Chatham, 27 Feb 1985.

William J. Wallace attended St Thomas College and was trained for the priesthood at the Grand Seminary in Quebec City. After his ordination he served for a year as a curate at Renous. In 1924-25 he was priest of the Loggieville mission, secretary to Bishop Patrice A. Chiasson, and a part-time teacher at St Thomas College. In 1925 he was named parish priest at Boiestown. He was transferred to Bartibog in 1931 and to Chatham in 1946. He retired in 1961. For a number of years prior to his death he was a patient of the Hotel Dieu Hospital.
