WILLISTON, EDWARD PERLEY (1852-1921)

WILLISTON, EDWARD PERLEY, lawyer and county secretary-treasurer; b. Newcastle, 24 Oct 1852, s/o Edward Williston and Sarah Jane Mignowitz; brother of Howard Williston; m. 1881, Elizabeth J. Brander, sister of John Brander; d. Newcastle, 1 Jan 1921.

E. Perley Williston was educated in the Newcastle schools and at the University of New Brunswick (BA 1872). He studied law with Samuel Thomson in Newcastle and David S. Kerr in Saint John and was admitted to the bar in 1876. In the same year, he was appointed county auditor. He was named to the Newcastle School Board in 1895. He was secretary-treasurer of the county from 1904 to 1920 and clerk of the Circuit Court. He was survived in 1921 by his wife, Elizabeth J. Brander, a son, and a daughter: Alice May Williston, the wife of Alfred V. Tracy-Gould.
