COLWILL, SEPTIMUS EDWARD (1852-1938)
COLWILL, SEPTIMUS EDWARD, Methodist minister, Bay du Vin, 1879-80; b. Prince Edward Island, 17 Aug 1852, s/o Charles Colwill and Sarah Jane Fletcher; m. 1884, Jeanette Wilson, of Ontario; d. Winnipeg, Man., 11 Jan 1938.
Septimus Edward Colwill was educated at Mount Allison College and ordained in 1879. His first assignment was to the Bay du Vin mission, as successor to Wallace B. Thomas, a licentiate who had been leading the Methodist congregation there for two years. When he left in 1880 he went to St James, N.B. Soon afterwards, he moved to Manitoba, and he preached mostly in small communities in that province for the duration of his ministry. He retired in Winnipeg in 1926 and died there twelve years later, at eighty-five years of age. A son, James Roy Colwill, was a leading barrister in Portage la Prairie.
