DONNELLY, MARIE LOUISE (1826-1901)

DONNELLY, MARIE LOUISE, Sister St Providence of the Congregation of Notre Dame; teacher, and superior at Newcastle, 1876-77; b. 18 Sep 1826, d/o Lawrence Donnelly and Helen Garvan, natives of Co. Cork, Ireland; entered religious life, 1846; d. Montreal, 10 March 1901.

For more than twenty years prior to her brief tenure as superior at St Mary's Convent in Newcastle, Marie Louise Donnelly was on the staff of the CND's École Villa-Maria in Montreal. Later she served as mother provincial of the order for Ontario and the United States. In 1893 she was in charge of the CND exhibit at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. She was the superior of St Urbain Academy in Montreal at the time of her death.
