IRVING, WILLIAM SOWERBY (1886-1961)
IRVING, WILLIAM SOWERBY, United Church minister, Douglastown and Nelson, 1952-55; b. Beersville, Kent Co., N.B., 14 Nov 1886, s/o James Fowler Irving and Elizabeth Sowerby Starratt; m. Louise V. MacMillan; d. Moncton, 24 Jan 1961.
William S. Irving was educated at Dalhousie University (1909-13) and trained for the ministry at the Presbyterian College in Halifax. Ordained in 1917, he ministered in churches at Newport, Clifton, and Dartmouth, N.S., with time off to serve as a chaplain with the Canadian forces in World War II. His Miramichi pastorate was his last. When he left in 1955 he entered retirement in Moncton. He was survived in 1961 by his wife, Louise V. MacMillan, a son, and a daughter.
