JONES, GEORGE ROBERT (1895-1977)

JONES, GEORGE ROBERT, tailor; mayor of Chatham, 1947/48; b. Saint John, 30 May 1895, s/o Francis S. Jones and Carrie Elizabeth Hake; m. Edna Pearl Green; d. 18 Aug 1977.

G. Robert Jones moved to Chatham with his wife and family in the 1920s and became a partner of Sydney D. Heckbert in the firm of Heckbert & Jones, merchant tailors. After the partnership was dissolved he continued in the tailoring business on his own.

Jones sat on the Chatham Town Council both before and after the two-year term which he served as mayor in 1947/48. He was a member of the Masonic order and the United Church. His wife, Edna P. Green, predeceased him in 1963. He was survived in 1977 by two daughters and two sons.
