O'HANLEY, CHARLES V., college teacher, president of St Thomas College, 1945-48, and Catholic parish priest, Douglastown, 1948-61; b. Hillsborough, N.B., 14 May 1899, s/o Angus O'Hanley and Agnes Morris; ordained 1930; d. Douglastown, 10 Oct 1961.

Charles V. O'Hanley was educated at St Thomas College and St Dunstan's University (1920-22) and became a schoolteacher. He was living in Bathurst in 1924 before being appointed as a lay member of the St Thomas College staff. He later trained for the priesthood at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax and was ordained in 1930. He returned to teach at St Thomas and was subsequently granted an MA degree. In 1937 he succeeded Father John D. Keane as vice-rector and prefect of studies at the college, and in 1945 he succeeded Father James M. Hill as president. After he had held the presidency for three years he was appointed priest of St Samuel's Church at Douglastown, but his connection with St Thomas was continued through a term of service on the board of governors. His death in 1961 from a heart seizure occurred at the Douglastown rectory.
