SAMPSON, PERCY MCKECHNIE (1881-1947)

SAMPSON, PERCY MCKECHNIE, Presbyterian minister, Millerton and Sunny Corner, 1937-47; b. Quebec City, 17 Aug 1881, s/o Richard Sampson and Eliza Moore; m. 1934, Irene Cowan, a native of Napanee, Ont.; d. Millerton, 10 Apr 1947.

Percy McK. Sampson grew up at Sherbrooke, Que., and became a mechanical tradesman. After going to McClelland, Alta, in 1921 as a catechist he decided to enter the ministry. He attended the Presbyterian College in Montreal and was graduated and ordained in 1925, at age forty-four. He served for twelve years in the province of Quebec and was then called to Millerton and Sunny Corner.

Sampson's main legacy was a summer Bible school which he introduced at the church at Sunny Corner in 1937. He conducted this school, which attracted children from all Protestant denominations, until his death ten years later, and his widow continued it until her retirement in 1969. Published annual reports attest to the scope and seriousness of purpose of their work.
