SCOTT, ROBERT HAMILTON (1892-1963)

SCOTT, ROBERT HAMILTON, United Church minister, Douglastown and Nelson, 1931-35; b. Jardineville, near Richibucto, N.B., 9 Aug 1892, s/o William Scott and Jane Eddy; m. 1925, Annie Ritchie Nicholson, RN, d/o Robert Nicholson and Margaret Isabella Russell; d. Newmarket, Ont., 5 Jun 1963.

A graduate of the grammar school at Richibucto, Robert H. Scott attended Dalhousie University (1911-14) and served overseas with the Nova Scotia Highlanders in World War I. After demobilization he went back to Dalhousie to study law (1919-20 and 1923-24). He later graduated from the theological training program at the Presbyterian College. Ordained in the United Church in1925, he served in Charlotte County, N.B., before coming to the Miramichi in 1931 as pastor of the Douglastown and Nelson charge.

When Scott left the Miramichi in 1935 he also resigned from the ministry to become assistant director of old age pensions for New Brunswick. He was later the provincial director of child welfare. After his retirement he moved to Ontario to live with his son, Robert N. Scott, by whom he was survived in 1963. His wife, Annie R. Nicholson, predeceased him.
