TAYLOR, HARRY A. (1884-1961)

TAYLOR, HARRY A., grocer, harbormaster, and welfare officer; b. Newcastle, 14 Feb 1884, s/o Alexander Taylor and Jane MacTavish; m. 1910, Ellen Price Aharan, d/o Peter Aharan and Louise Price, of Newcastle; d. 28 Sep 1961.

Harry A. Taylor was the clerk in charge of D. & J. Ritchie's grocery store in Newcastle for about eighteen years. When the firm's partners decided to discontinue that part of the business in 1923 he took the store over and conducted it until 1958. He was harbormaster at Newcastle and the town's welfare officer at the time of his death.

As a young man, Taylor was active in sports and was a volunteer fireman. He later sat on the Newcastle Town Council for several terms and was president of the Miramichi Hospital Board from 1946 to 1948. He was a Mason and a member of the United Church. He was seventy-six when his death occurred in 1961, and his widow, Ellen P. Aharan, was eighty-seven when she died in 1972. She was survived by two sons.
