TEED, STEPHEN TREEN (1825-1912)

TEED, STEPHEN TREEN, Methodist minister, Chatham circuit, 1879-82; b. Malagash, N.S., 11 Jun 1825; m. 1st, 1863, Rachel Jane Haviland, of Greenwich, Kings Co., N.B., and 2nd, 1896, Louisa Adelina Peatman, also of Greenwich; d. Moncton, 15 Nov 1912.

Stephen T. Teed was received into the Methodist ministry on trial in 1856 and was ordained in 1860. He served the church in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and on several circuits in New Brunswick prior to 1879, when he came to Chatham from Saint John. He was one who "performed every duty in a careful, orderly manner," and who "commanded the esteem of all classes." An able speaker, he addressed a large public audience in Chatham in 1882 on the topic, "Foresight, or Look out for a Rainy Day."

After serving the usual three-year term, Teed left the Miramichi to take over the circuit at Tryon, P.E.I. In 1891 he retired from pastoral duties to live in Moncton. He was survived there in 1912 by his second wife, Louisa A. Peatman.
