Abstract Parish of Fredericton, York County, Esquire. Will dated 14 October 1818, proved 11 March 1820. Wife Isabella estate for life, to be divided among my children at her death. Wife Isabella and sons Harris Cooke HAILES and Michael Cooke HAILES executors. Witnesses: Ward CHIPMAN, Jedediah SLASON, Richard DIBBLEE. NOTE: The file contains some other documents of interest. (B.)   An indenture executed 19 May 1821 between Harris Cooke HAILES, Captain in His Majesty's 41st Regiment of Foot and Michael Cooke HAILES of Fredericton, cites the will of Lieut. Col. Harris William HAILES, stating the estate to be divided between his children and his grand-child, Isabella CARMICHAEL. By the indenture, Harris Cooke HAILES relinquished all claims to the estate and gave his one-seventh part of the estate to Michael Cooke HAILES. Harris Cooke HAILES executed this document before Thomas LEYLAND Esq., Mayor of the Borough and Town of Liverpool in the County Palantine of Lancaster. (C.)   Copy of the Will of Michael Cooke HAILES, late of Fredericton, now residing at St. Croix, one of the West India Islands, dated 28 January 1822. Bequeaths his office to his mother; a 200 acre farm on the Penniock to his brother Hunter; a 500 acre tract granted by Government near the Welsh Settlement to brothers Hunter and Walter as tenants in common; brother Harris' share of father's estate and my share to sister Grace in order to render her hereafter independent, thus giving her three shares; my watch to brother-in-law Dr. GRANT. Any inheritance from aunt Lydia COOKE bequeathed to sister Grace. Appoints William F. ODELL sole executor. Will witnessed by Sarah C. GOOLD, Sarah HEYLIGEN, James SMITH. Will proved at Fredericton on 3 July 1822. (D.)   Petition of Revd. Charles COSTER and Grace Clarkson COSTER, his wife, and Louisa HOLEBROOK, spinster, all of Fredericton dated 5 February 1855. Stated Harris William HAILES was grand-father of petitioners Grace and Louisa; that the children of Harris William HAILES were four sons, Harris Cooke, Michael Cooke, Martin Hunter and Walter, and three daughters, Isabella, who was married to H. H. CARMICHAEL, Mary Ann married Dr. Colquhoun GRANT, and Grace married to James HOLEBROOK, the father and mother of petitioners; that Michael Cooke HAILES died sometime in February 1822 without ever being married; that Harris Cooke HAILES departed this life at London in 1841, leaving his widow, Jane F. HAILES and three children, Isabella, Mary Ann and Harris, all of age; that about 10 October 1850 Martin Hunter HAILES departed this life near Calcutta, leaving his widow, Catherine, and five children, Catherine, Isabella, Walter, Grace and Sophia, all minors; that some time in 1840 Walter HAILES departed this life somewhere in India without ever having been married; that on or before the decease of Harris William HAILES, his daughter Isabella CARMICHAEL departed this life, leaving one infant daughter, Isabella CARMICHAEL, who was married to William H. KEPPLE Esq., a Lieutenant in the Army, and the said William Henry KEPPLE on 1 September 1844 and Isabella, his wife, on 20 April 1846 both died at Fredericton, leaving two infant daughters, Anne and Marguerite, who are now living with their grand-father, H. H. CARMICHAEL Esq. in the Isle of Man; that about 1846 Doctor C. GRANT departed this life leaving his widow, Mary Ann, and several children, Isabella, Mary Ann, Augusta, Jane, Grace, Gregory C., Barbara and Louisa [appears the petitioners had doubts about the completeness of this listing of children]; that James HOLEBROOK died on 25 April 1846 and his wife, Grace, died on 16 November 1849 at Fredericton, leaving three children, Isabella Hannah HOLEBROOK, now in Canada West, and the petitioners Grace and Louisa; that Isabella HAILES, widow and executrix of Col. ODELL executors; that no inventory has been filed for either estate and the petitioners pray for administration. (E.)   Administration de bonis non granted 10 March 1855 to the above petitioners jointly with John Simcoe SAUNDERS of Fredericton and Amos Edwin BOTSFORD of Westmorland County, with bond set at £6,000.
