Abstract City of Saint John, St. John County. Intestate. Administration granted 6 August 1821 to the widow Mary MERRITT. Fellow bondsmen William George CODY, innkeeper, John ALLAN, druggist, and James BURNS, watchmaker, all of the City of Saint John. Inventory, filed 27 October 1821, valued at £336 by Alexander EDWARDS, James ROBERTSON and Thomas BARLOW. A three page list of notes and book debts listed some 200 accounts amounting to £2,098. An order of distribution, dated 26 November 1822, covering £2,130 collected by the administrator, allocated one half to Mary MERRITT, the wife, there being no children; one fifth to John MERRITT and Elizabeth STEVENS, children of Robert, eldest brother, deceased; and one fifth each to Ann GOLDING, Mary HEUSTIS, Gilbert MERRITT and Israel MERRITT.
