Abstract Parish of Hillsborough, Westmorland County. Will dated 13 August 1809, proved 6 October 1809. Wife Mary Ann one-third of entire estate for life. Son Alexander Lot 9 in the grant to James SMITH Senior et al, purchased of Lewis SMITH, my brother, and all my right, title, share and interest as heir at law to Lot 8. Sons John and James Lot 7 granted to me. Daughters Elizabeth, Martha and Mary each £40. Daughter Ann £25. Susannah, daughter of John CAMERON, £20. Personal estate equally to sons Alexander, James and John, son Alexander to pay his sisters Elizabeth, Martha and Mary £5 each in stock and to his sister Anna £5 in stock when she comes of age. No executors appointed. Witnesses: George BENNETT, Malcolm WILMOT, Abraham TRITES. CODICIL undated, stipulated that wife's share of estate allowed to her only while she remains a widow. Witnesses: George BENNETT, Delia WATSON, Mary WILMOT.
