Joseph TWEEDIE, one of our oldest citizens, died at his home in Chatham (North. Co.) Tuesday morn., age 79 years 6 mos. He was an Irishman by birth and came to this county 66 years ago For many years he had been engaged in the work of colporteur for the American Tract Society and in that connection was known all over North Shore and in adjacent parts of Quebec. He was the brother of three Methodist clergyman: Rev. Wm TWEEDIE, now supernumerary at Hampton (Kings Co.) N.B.; Rev. Jas. TWEEDIE, now stationed at Port Hood, N.S. and Rev. Robert TWEEDIE who died a few years ago. He leaves one sons and two daughters, Hon. L.J. TWEEDIE, Q.C., Surveyor General, Mrs. BARNETT, Toronto and Miss M.R. TWEEDIE, Chatham. His second wife, who survives him, is a d/o Wm GRAY, Bonaventure, Quebec. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 o'clock from his residence, Sheriff street, near St. Andrew's church. - 'Advance'
