Scope and Content
The metaphors of the wave and the ear, Chrétien's perhaps, are used to denote that the NB hearings on the Meech Lake Accord are perhaps of interest for what Premiers McKenna and Filman have to say but like any other wave it will soon be of no consequence.

Issues
Meech Lake Accord (1987-1990)
The Meech Lake Accord was a set of proposed constitutional amendments to the Constitution of Canada negotiated between Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and the provincial Premiers at a meeting in the Gatineau Hills, Quebec, in 1987. The intent was to mend the concerns of the provinces and especially those of Quebec regarding its status as a distinct society. Gaining unilateral support from the provinces proved difficult and the Accord was not ratified by the deadline that had been set in 1990. The Meech Lake Accord was followed by the successor Charlottetown Accord, which also failed to be ratified.
